The 'House of Emotions' is a unique experience where art meets mental health care. The project is a collaboration between mental health care organisation Mondriaan, festival Cultura Nova and SCHUNCK Museum.

The 'House' is a pavilion on Cultura Nova's festival square. It was designed by visual artist David Bade. The pavilion displays works created by clients and employees of Mondriaan. In his art practice, Bade has a lot of experience working with the mental health sector. Like no other, he knows how to enthuse and connect various groups of people.
Theatre and visual art provide a way to break taboos and share difficult subjects with each other and with the audience. Building and furnishing the pavilion together with clients of Mondriaan mental healthcare is an example of how art can serve as a bridge between people. Read more about the creative process >
During Cultura Nova, the 'House' will be accessible free of charge. Visitors will also have the chance to participate in the creation process. Bade will be present throughout the festival to engage visitors and participants in creating new artworks and adding them to the growing pavilion.
The 'House of Emotions' will be open from Saturday 26 August to Sunday 3 September, during Cultura Nova's festival square opening hours.
About David Bade
In 2013, David Bade and SCHUNCK entered into a collaboration for a very long time, his whole life: David Bade draws Heerlen. Bade (Willemstad 1970, Curaçao) is a Dutch sculptor, installation artist, painter and draughtsman. In 2006, he co-founded the Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in Curaçao with Tirzo Martha. The IBB runs an artist-in-residency programme, organises cultural projects and provides training opportunities for local artists. With support from the VriendenLoterij Fonds, SCHUNCK is realising a series of special group meetings and portraits in Heerlen together with David Bade. These portraits will be included in the city collection and immortalise the people of the city in the art collection. Read more >
About Mondriaan
Mondriaan provides mental health care, prevention and addiction care for children, adults and the elderly and forensic psychiatry. Mondriaan is there for all South-Limburgers. Together with a broad network, they work towards a mentally healthier society. They offer treatment, guidance, support and prevention. About Cultura Nova
Cultura Nova is a large international visual theatre festival organised annually in Heerlen and its surroundings. In 2022, the festival included 85 different companies from home and abroad, presenting more than 350 cultural activities for young and old in 10 days, including 14 premieres, 22 co-productions in Heerlen and Parkstad and even across the border in Aachen. In front of and behind the scenes of the festival, 600 employees - a significant part of them volunteers - ensured an unforgettable edition. The festival attracted over 73,000 visitors.
