Citaverde / Parc Imstenrade

After the successful first edition of David Bade draws Heerlen which took place in 2013, the artist returned to Heerlen in April of the following year. He set up temporary studios in Citaverde College and the Parc Imstenrade complex. At both locations, he engaged in informal dialogue with two different generations of Heerlen’s citizens: pupils from a secondary school and elderly residents in a retirement complex. In this way, Bade was able to form a good impression of the lives, experiences, dreams and personalities of Heerlen’s young and old respectively. On the basis of these conversations he was able to compose group portraits of both generations in which the stories and identities of individuals could be visualised artistically. As part of the 100th anniversary of Heerlen’s public library in 2014, he also immortalised several of the city’s centenarians with a number of portraits. Likewise at Citaverde College, Bade painted two canvasses together with several of its pupils.
