About Basquiat: The Artist and his New York scene

SCHUNCK brings the European premiere of an untold story to Heerlen, that of the young Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 - 1988) and his contemporaries from the New York of the years 1978-1982. The intimate exhibition follows Basquiat's development even before his breakthrough from street artist of poetic graffiti lyrics to world star. Also on display is work by contemporaries with whom Basquiat collaborated such as Keith Haring, Nan Goldin and Jenny Holzer. And, of course, masterpieces by Basquiat himself.
