David Bade Levenslang bij SCHUNCK

Last chance: exhibition David Bade on view for a few more weeks

At SCHUNCK, we celebrate a decade of art and connection with the exhibition 'In for life: 10 years of David Bade in Heerlen'. Until 10 March 2024, you can still enjoy the colorful works of art, the interactive aspect of the mini-golf courses and the accompanying cultural side program.

Visual artist David Bade made an unconventional alliance with Heerlen in 2013. He promised a lifetime commitment to the city. This by the name David Bade draws down Heerlen. Over the past decade, he captured (people of) the city in expressionistic lines and colors. In for life: 10 years of David Bade in Heerlen tells intimate stories of individuals and communities with works ranging from sophisticated charcoal drawings to vivid, painted group portraits and three-dimensional installations.

'In for life' offers visitors not only viewing pleasure, but also gives them a unique experience of literally golfing from emotion to emotion on specially built miniature golf courses. From 'Angry' with a racket to 'Happy' on a seesaw, each course is infused with symbolism. This playful form of presentation fits seamlessly with Bade's theme of encounter and engagement. SCHUNCK's museum gallery is transformed into a lively and dynamic entity that invites visitors to participate, play and experience the various emotions evoked by the works.

Frictions Festival

During the exhibition, the first edition of Frictions Festival, a free public program of performances, workshops and discussions, kicked off. The festival, infused with collaborations with local initiatives, community organizations and creative groups in Heerlen, emphasizes connection and community - entirely in the spirit of Bade. Two more editions of Frictions are scheduled for 22 February and 7 March. During the February edition, designed in collaboration with Outpoet, SCHUNCK Museum will be transformed into a pop stage for one evening. Musical performances by Mt. Atlas, Housepainters and Saint Pierre presents: 273, combined with creative makers like kashka, Roy "Boy" Aldi and beatrice pittman guarantee a surprising evening. The Frictions edition in March is organized in collaboration with KoolCult. Further info on both editions can be found here.

In the last two weeks of the exhibition, David Bade will work with clients and staff of Mondriaan GGZ to expand and complete one of the mini-golf courses. This will take place during opening hours of the exhibition. The public can thus witness the creation process.
