Walk+en+talk

First Talk & Walk session, Greylight and SCHUNCK on 23 April

Talk & Walk is a series of encounters with artists who work at Greylight Projects in Heerlen. During these sessions, the artists speak about their work and their project in Heerlen.

Greylight Projects is the platform for art and culture in Heerlen. Several times per year, the organisation invites artists from the region and beyond to live and work in Heerlen for a period of time. There are currently three guest artists working in studios located in former school premises on Schaesbergerweg. One of these is Darcy Neven from Valkenburg.

Keith Haring

The Talk & Walk all have some connection with the current exhibition taking place at SCHUNCK - Keith Haring: Grace House Mural. Haring's modus operandi of working in public spaces or responding to his surroundings ties in with the vision of Greylight Projects and #mappingheerlen. As an extension of this, current attitudes to the city and the region are explored.

Darcy Neven

The first Talk & Walk session is with Darcy Neven (1991), who is a visual artist, writer, gardener and spokes person on matters of art and ecology. Neven has previously displayed her work in SCHUNCK as part of the ‘Landscape Works with Piet Oudolf and LOLA: in search of Sharawadgi’ exhibition. Following this exhibition, her greenhouse went on tour and ended up in the garden at Greylight Projects. Here in the garden, she presents her greenhouse and her project’s progress and she gets to work on the garden to further develop it and grow vegetables.

During her residence and her work on the garden, Darcy aims to immerse her audience in her experiences and way of thinking. At the same time she invites us to talk about her garden over a cup of tea.
