6,500 visitors for Basquiat exhibition

Rondleiding SCHUNCK Basquiat

Cultural institution SCHUNCK in Heerlen already received 6,500 visitors during the first 30 days of the exhibition Basquiat - the artist and his New York scene.

The exhibition is therefore already a great success as far as the organisation is concerned. We see both older and younger people coming to the museum and people from the Randstad and the rest of the country are also finding their way to Heerlen. In addition, more than 70 school visits are planned in the coming period,' says Kor Bonnema, general director of SCHUNCK. The worldwide media attention with more than 140 publications in thirteen countries has certainly contributed to this, continues Prisca Niël, Sr. advisor marketing and communication SCHUNCK: 'In the first weekend, we mainly saw a lot of coverage in royalty and lifestyle magazines around the visit of Maxima who opened the exhibition. This publicity created quite a pendulum of global interest in the content story of the exhibition. We have already received a lot of international arts and culture trade press. Resulting in visitors from all over Europe and articles in the culture supplements of national dailies and trade magazines worldwide.'

If visitor numbers remain at this level, SCHUNCK expects the 10,000th visitor to the Basquiat exhibition in April. This visitor will receive a special and festive reception.
