Pearls; Parc Imstenrade chooses from SCHUNCK collection
What can a work of art do for you? And what work would you show in an exhibition if you were allowed to play the role of curator? With this question in mind, residents of Parc Imstenrade delved into the SCHUNCK collection in several sessions. The result is a collection presentation curated by the residents at De Vondst.

the idea
The idea of 'curator for a day' arose partly from the desire of the residents of Parc Imstenrade to be more involved with the SCHUNCK collection and partly from SCHUNCK's starting point to strengthen the social importance of the art collection. To bring the collection works closer to the public, so that the people to whom this collection belongs - after all, the municipal collection in principle belongs to all Heerlen citizens! - also have the opportunity to get to know the artworks.
the process
During five meetings, twelve residents curated their own exhibition. They made a selection from hundreds of artworks in the SCHUNCK collection. The selection was made by mutual agreement. Sometimes because a particular work appealed to the group, or because of the story behind it. Occasionally, the choice arose from nostalgia or recognition, and sometimes from the fact that a particular work causes heated discussion. All the works together thus not only give a nice picture of the collection, but certainly also a reflection of the group. In all its diversity and commonality.
