The music pays homage to the vibrant and creative environment in which he lived, and encapsulates a magical period in the history of New York City. The mix tapes mostly comprise disco, early house, and New York garage.

These tapes were gifted to Haring by friends and loved ones, and were played regularly in his studio. They contain the hisses, scratches, and other artefacts of DIY analogue recordings that were kept by Haring for a number of years. The cassettes, created in and celebrating queer and trans communities, reflect a key period in the social and cultural milieu of New York and of Haring.
